Dié Etiek of slegs Etiese Riglyne? Self-evaluering van Tendense, Invloede en Skuiwe in Etiek-navorsing
Abstract
This article is presented as a self-assessment of the researcher’s research into various ethical themes. The intension of the article is to analyse what trends, developments and paradigm shifts influenced research into ethics. The author indicates that ethics has grown in popularity. This is evident through the influence ethics has on contemporary society. At the same time ethics is called in to addresses difficult issues. The moral basis of ethics also changed over time. To assess whether these changes and challenges had any influence on research into ethics the author identified seven ethical themes to reflect on. These themes are meta-ethics, medical ethics, professional ethics, business ethics, professional ethics, pastoral ethics and the compromise. These themes are also used to identify what can be learnt from research into ethics. The author identifies that ethics is a science in own right, ethics is no quick fix and that ongoing conceptual development is important for ethical growth. Since the author works within the context of Reformed ethics the Kingdom of God is regarded as an important ethos for research into ethics.
